Internship Season Got You Stressed?

A rising junior at Texas Christian University, Lauren Rasmussen participated in the 2019 Beacon Fellowship in Barcelona, Spain. The following is a thoughtful reflection on the internship search from her personal blog:

“I thought I had to get an internship early and be this inspirational high achieving student… I kept spinning my wheels, redrafting my resume, writing cover letter after cover letter to only get rejected from internships. I had a very clear idea of what I wanted to do – work for an ethical company doing marketing or strategic work. I love companies like Patagonia, Teaspressa, Columbia, Hydroflask, RXBar, LaraBar, Athleta and wow what I would’ve done to intern for the summer at one of these companies. But I didn’t, and that’s okay, I just didn’t know it at the time.

Come March 2019, I was still looking for an internship – oh man – and freaking out. I wish someone would’ve told me to calm down and give it completely to God, or honestly in reality people probably did and I just didn’t have open ears. He’s always got the perfect plan.

Of course hindsight is 20/20, and now I see the beauty in waiting. In March I learned about the Beacon Fellowship and 1MISSION posted their summer internship applications. Not to mention 1MISSION is a non-profit I’ve been in love with and followed since 8th grade! God had my back and He definitely has yours too.

This summer has been one insane opportunity. I got to be a part of the Beacon Fellowship where 20 students from the US intern as management consultants abroad working for a growing company. Our fellowship was split into five projects, and my team of four got to work on Glovo’s global expansion! Woah! I learned how I want to definitely try to go into consulting – loving the fast pace and impactful projects not to mention the intentional company community. And that was just the first month!”
